In a world without activists like Emmanuel, families could be kicked out of their homes to make your cell phone.
Emmanuel leads AFREWATCH, a group working to protect people’s rights and natural resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). There, greedy mining companies seeking the minerals that make up cell phones, laptops, and electric cars force people off their land. Communities are left with pollution, poverty, and threats if they push back.
AFREWATCH and Emmanuel have helped displaced people get restitution, uncovered the use of children as young as 7 in the mines, and exposed spills that destroy crops. They helped change national law to give communities a say in how their land is used and penalize child labor. As demand for the DRC’s minerals rises, so does the need for AFREWATCH’s work.
Donate now and you can help Emmanuel and AFREWATCH:
- Create a “school” to train people in mining regions to advocate for their rights
- Monitor and report on air pollution from mines
- Protect activists and community leader when they’re threatened for speaking out
Your donation today will be matched to make double the difference for Emmanuel and communities standing up for their rights and environment.
More Activists Our World Needs
The Fund for Global Human Rights supports and protects the world’s activists.
Each year, we give grassroots activists in more than 60 countries the funds, training, and tools they need. With our support, activists take on human rights violations in their local community, change laws, and win landmark cases.
We support groups that others can’t reach. And we work to keep them safe. Because we believe that the world needs activists more than ever.
